DIGITAL PRODUCT MANAGER PRO
Updates & Renewals
Distribute protected software updates and extend time-limited update and download entitlement without automatic recurring subscriptions.
Digital Product Manager Pro can distribute protected software updates and manage time-limited update and download entitlement without requiring an automatically recurring subscription. The original purchase, licence status and update/download entitlement remain distinct parts of the product lifecycle.
1. Software Version and Update Package
Set the current software version and select the protected product package. When releasing an update, upload or select the new package, update the version number and maintain the What's New and changelog information. Keep the minimum PHP version, minimum WordPress version and tested WordPress version current where those fields are used.

2. Update Entitlement
The updates/download entitlement period controls how long the customer can receive protected software updates and downloads. Entitlement begins from fulfilment rather than merely from creation of an order.
A 12-month entitlement, for example, provides access for one year from fulfilment. When that period expires, protected update and download access ends unless the entitlement is renewed or otherwise extended by the merchant.
3. Renewal Price
Set a renewal price when customers should be able to extend their update/download entitlement. A successful renewal extends the customer's entitlement period using the product's configured renewal terms.
A renewal is a separate customer-initiated payment that extends access. It is not automatic recurring billing and DPM does not create a recurring Stripe subscription.
4. Update Delivery
An entitled installation can check DPM for version information and, when a newer version is available, receive access to the protected update package. The update response can use the product's current version, compatibility information, What's New details and changelog.
Licence and entitlement checks help prevent unrestricted public distribution of the package. An expired update/download entitlement should not provide protected update access even though the original product purchase remains recorded.
5. Renewal and Fulfilment
Renewal extends an existing customer's configured entitlement; it does not replace the original order or turn the product into a subscription. The renewed expiry is reflected in the customer's access and licensing information where applicable.
As with the original purchase, access changes are tied to successful fulfilment. This keeps protected updates and downloads aligned with the customer's current entitlement.
6. Release Checklist
- Update the version number
- Upload or select the correct protected package
- Update What's New
- Update the changelog
- Confirm compatibility information
- Test the update from an entitled installation before announcing the release
Ready to Release
Once the version, package and release information are updated and tested, customers with a current entitlement can receive the new protected software release through DPM. Customers whose update/download entitlement has expired can renew where a renewal price and renewal flow are available.
