Software Licensing

Issue licence keys, control activations and give customers a clear view of their licensed software access.

Digital Product Manager Pro includes a merchant licensing system for Licensed Software products. It can issue customer licence keys, control activation limits and track the software entitlement lifecycle independently of DPM's own product licensing.

1. Enable Licensed Software

Choose Licensed Software as the product type and configure the activation limit, updates and download entitlement period, protected package and software version. You can also provide WordPress and PHP compatibility information, documentation and support links, What's New information and a changelog where appropriate.

2. Licence Issuance

When an eligible Licensed Software order is fulfilled, DPM issues the customer a licence for the purchased product. A successful Stripe order can reach fulfilment automatically, while a bank-transfer order remains pending until payment is confirmed and the merchant fulfils it.

The licence record tracks its status, expiry and activation usage. The merchant can review licences from Digital Products > Licences and sort the list by date, customer, expiry or Product ID.

3. Activation Lifecycle

Compatible software can activate a licence, validate it during use and deactivate an installation when the customer moves the licence elsewhere. DPM tracks active installations against the licence rather than treating the key as an unrestricted download code.

The activation limit controls how many active installations are permitted at once. Deactivating an installation frees that activation for another eligible installation.

4. Customer View

Customers can see their available licences, status and activation usage from My Digital Products. Time-limited update and download entitlement can expire independently of the original purchase, and a renewal can extend that entitlement where configured.

5. Licence and Entitlement

The licence record and the customer's update or download entitlement are related but distinct. DPM can track licence status and activations while also enforcing a time-limited period for protected downloads and software updates.

Renewal extends the configured entitlement period. It does not create an automatically recurring Stripe subscription.

6. Keep Licence Keys Private

Licence keys should be treated as customer credentials.

Do not publish real customer licence keys in screenshots, documentation or public support conversations.

Once the product type, activation rules and entitlement are configured, DPM can manage the licence lifecycle from fulfilment and issuance through activation, validation and deactivation, while keeping update and download entitlement under merchant control.
