Protected Downloads

Deliver digital product files securely through customer entitlement instead of exposing ordinary public download links.

Digital Product Manager Pro delivers protected product files through customer entitlement rather than exposing the product package as an ordinary public download link.

1. Choose the Protected File

Select the product file in the Product Settings. For software this will commonly be a ZIP package; for other products it may be another downloadable file type.

2. Customer Entitlement

A customer must have valid, fulfilled access to the product before the protected download is made available. DPM checks the customer's entitlement when the protected file is requested rather than relying on possession of an ordinary public file link.

Access can include an expiry date and download limit, depending on the entitlement you configure. Time-limited update and download access is calculated from fulfilment and can later be extended through a renewal where configured.

3. Customer Download Experience

Available downloads appear inside My Digital Products. The customer can see the product and whether the protected download is currently available. The same customer-facing download information can also be placed with DPM's account and downloads shortcodes where appropriate.

4. Expired or Removed Access

If access expires, its download limit is exhausted, or access is removed, the protected file is no longer available through that customer entitlement.

Orders and customer access serve different purposes. An order records the purchase, while the customer's entitlement determines whether the protected file can currently be downloaded.

5. Payment and Fulfilment

A successful Stripe purchase can grant protected download access automatically as part of fulfilment. A bank-transfer order remains pending and does not grant access until the merchant confirms payment and fulfils the order.

This keeps protected delivery tied to completed fulfilment rather than simply to the creation of an order.

Once the protected file and customer entitlement are configured, DPM controls access through the customer's current entitlement rather than relying on a public product-file URL. Test the complete purchase and download flow before making the product live.
