Custom Visual Design

A visual identity.
Designed only for you.

Your website should look unmistakably like your business, not like a template wearing different colours. Custom visual design brings your identity, message and audience together through purposeful layouts, typography, imagery and detail. The result is a distinctive website that feels considered, credible and entirely your own.

02 ORIGINAL, PURPOSEFUL AND BUILT AROUND YOUR IDENTITY.

DESIGNED TO
BELONG.
TO YOU.

Custom visual design is where your business becomes a recognisable online experience.

Rather than forcing your content into a pre-built theme, I develop a visual direction around your brand, audience, personality and goals. Every page is composed to communicate clearly while giving your business a distinctive and memorable presence.

The design is not decoration added at the end. Page hierarchy, spacing, typography, colour, imagery and interaction all work together to help visitors understand who you are, what you offer and what they should do next.

01

BRAND
DIRECTION

Your existing identity, values and audience shape a visual direction that feels appropriate to your business rather than borrowed from somebody else.

02

BESPOKE
LAYOUTS

Each section is composed around your real content, giving important messages room to lead and creating a natural visual path through every page.

03

PURPOSEFUL
DETAIL

Typography, colour, imagery, spacing, movement and interface details are refined as one connected system, creating polish without visual clutter.

03 WHAT CUSTOM VISUAL DESIGN INCLUDES

EVERY DETAIL
WORKING AS
ONE.

A strong visual identity is created through a connected set of design decisions, not one dramatic homepage.

The visual system is developed across page structure, typography, colour, imagery, spacing, interface elements and responsive behaviour so the entire website feels coherent.

Each choice has a practical role: clarifying information, expressing personality, establishing trust or guiding visitors towards an enquiry. Beauty matters, but it works best when it also improves understanding.

VISUAL
DIRECTION

The overall character of the website is established around your brand, audience and market, from restrained and editorial to bold, energetic or highly technical.

TYPOGRAPHY
SYSTEM

Headline, body and interface type styles are selected and refined for personality, readability and a clear hierarchy across every screen size.

COLOUR &
CONTRAST

Your brand palette is translated into a practical website system with deliberate accents, accessible contrast and enough restraint to keep key actions visible.

IMAGERY &
ART DIRECTION

Photography, illustration, graphics and image treatments are chosen or developed to support the same visual story instead of feeling like unrelated decoration.

PAGE
COMPOSITION

Content is shaped into deliberate compositions that balance impact with breathing room, helping visitors scan, understand and move naturally through each page.

INTERACTION &
MOTION

Hover states, transitions and subtle movement add feedback and character where useful, while reduced-motion support keeps the experience comfortable and accessible.

04 FROM BRAND INSIGHT TO A COMPLETE VISUAL SYSTEM

CLEARLY DEFINED.
HONESTLY ADVISED.
FIXED BEFORE WE BEGIN.

Distinctive design begins by understanding what makes your business different and what your audience needs to feel, understand and remember.

I turn that understanding into a visual language, test it against real content and refine it across the complete website. The process remains collaborative, but the design stays cohesive because one designer carries the vision from first concept to final detail.

01 VISUAL DISCOVERY

UNDERSTANDING THE BUSINESS BEHIND THE BRAND

FIRST, WE FIND
WHAT SHOULD FEEL
UNIQUELY YOURS.

Before choosing colours or drawing layouts, I need to understand the business the design will represent.

We explore your audience, competitors, existing identity, values, tone and visual preferences. We also identify what currently feels right, what feels dated and what the new website should communicate at first glance.

This stage prevents arbitrary styling. The creative direction grows from real business context, giving every later design decision a reason.

02 CREATIVE DIRECTION

BUILDING A VISUAL LANGUAGE BEFORE BUILDING PAGES

TYPE. COLOUR.
IMAGERY. SPACE.
ONE CLEAR VOICE.

The visual direction establishes the creative rules that will make every page feel related.

Typography, colour, image treatment, graphic motifs, spacing, buttons and interface details are explored together. Early compositions show how those elements behave with your actual content, not placeholder copy.

You can respond to a coherent direction rather than disconnected choices. Feedback is used to strengthen the concept while protecting the consistency that gives it impact.

03 PAGE DESIGN & REFINEMENT

APPLYING THE DIRECTION TO A COMPLETE EXPERIENCE

COMPOSED FOR CONTENT.
REFINED FOR DEVICES.
POLISHED AS ONE.

Once the direction is established, it is applied to the real pages and content your visitors will use.

Each page is individually composed around its purpose, with visual hierarchy guiding attention from headline to supporting information and the next meaningful action. Desktop, tablet and mobile layouts are considered as related designs rather than automatic reductions.

Spacing, line lengths, image crops, buttons, hover states and transitions are refined until the website feels resolved. The final result is expressive enough to be memorable and disciplined enough to remain easy to use.

ONE DESIGNER. ONE CONNECTED VISUAL DIRECTION.

The same person who learns your business creates the visual direction, designs the pages and carries the details through development, reducing handovers and protecting the original idea.

05 DESIGNED WITH IDENTITY

CLEAR SCOPE.
REAL OUTCOMES.
NO GUESSWORK.

Every business deserves a visual direction shaped around its own identity, audience and ambitions.

A professional services firm should not look like an arts organisation, and an established institution should not be forced into the visual language of a start-up. Custom design allows each project to communicate in a way that feels credible and specific.

These selected projects show how typography, colour, imagery, composition and interaction can create very different experiences while preserving the clarity and usability every effective website needs.

06 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CLEAR SCOPE.
FIXED PRICE.
NO SURPRISES.

Custom design should feel collaborative and clear, not mysterious or subjective.

These are common questions about how a bespoke visual direction is created, how feedback works and what makes it different from adapting a ready-made template.

01 WHAT DOES CUSTOM VISUAL DESIGN ACTUALLY MEAN?

It means the website is visually developed around your business rather than assembled from a pre-designed theme. Typography, colour, imagery, spacing, layouts and interface details are considered together and applied consistently across your actual content.

02 HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM USING A TEMPLATE?

A template begins with someone else’s composition and asks your brand to fit inside it. Custom design begins with your identity, audience and content, then creates the visual system and page layouts needed to express them clearly.

03 DO I NEED AN ESTABLISHED BRAND BEFORE WE START?

No. Existing logos, colours and guidelines are useful, but many clients arrive with only a logo or an informal visual style. I can work with what exists, strengthen it for digital use and establish a more coherent website direction around it.

04 HOW MUCH INPUT WILL I HAVE IN THE DESIGN?

Your knowledge of the business is essential. We discuss the direction before detailed page design begins, and you review the work at agreed stages. I explain the reasoning behind recommendations so feedback can be specific and productive.

05 WHAT IF I AM NOT SURE WHAT STYLE I WANT?

That is completely normal. You do not need to arrive with design terminology or a finished concept. Examples, preferences and even things you dislike help reveal the right direction, while the wider business context keeps the result appropriate.

06 WILL THE DESIGN WORK PROPERLY ON MOBILE?

Yes. Responsive design is part of the visual process, not a technical adjustment made afterwards. Layouts, typography, spacing, controls and image crops are refined for desktop, tablet and mobile so the identity remains strong and the content remains easy to use.

07 CAN YOU USE OUR EXISTING PHOTOGRAPHY AND CONTENT?

Yes. Existing photography, copy, logos and brand material can all be incorporated. I assess what supports the new direction, identify gaps and recommend where new photography, image treatment, editing or content assistance would noticeably improve the result.

08 HOW DO YOU KEEP THE WEBSITE FROM BECOMING OVERDESIGNED?

Every visual choice must support identity, hierarchy, understanding or interaction. Strong typography, controlled spacing and a few distinctive ideas usually create more impact than constant effects. The aim is memorable clarity, not decoration for its own sake.

STILL HAVE A QUESTION?
